Gary Jebb, Director of Place

Gary has strategic responsibility for Accommodation, Catering and Events (ACE) and the Estates Department, bringing them under one management ‘umbrella’ within the wider Corporate Services Group.

Gary Jebb graduated in Geography from Queen’s University Belfast and worked in private practice.  He became a Professional Associate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in 1988 and was elected as a Fellow in 2001.  In 1994, Gary was appointed to the Estates Directorate in Queen’s University Belfast where he became Director of Estates in 2002.

Having joined the University in 2014 as Director of Estates, Gary has led on an extensive Capital Programme and led significant change management in the delivery of core estates services.

Gary became Director of Place in July 2020.  Externally, this role establishes a single ‘voice’ for the University’s large estate when engaging with the City of Edinburgh’s key stakeholders including the City of Edinburgh Council.  Gary’s key objectives are to ensure that the University is at the heart of city-wide decisions, lending our support to initiatives where possible.

Gary was appointed to the Board of Historic Environment Scotland in Spring 2023 and the Governing Council of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce in Summer 2023.
